Aspec Writing Prompts: Romantic Tropes Edition (B)

 Here are the first half of the "B"s from 145 Romance Tropes, but meant for aspec characters.

Your aspec character is involved in a bait and switch.

  • Be cautious of aspec stereotypes around gullibility and manipulativeness. 
  • Is your character in-the-know, are they being tricked, or are both parties confused?
  • Why would your character agree to a bait and switch? Who is the person they are switching with?
  • Why would someone try and trick your character? What do they want from your character?

Your aspec character is involved in a "Beauty and the Beast" scenario.

  • Is your aspec character the beauty or the beast? Are both characters aspec?
  • What is the beast's character flaw to overcome and what is the "beastly" characteristic they will learn to accept (Shrek) or be cured of?
  • Did beast capture beauty? Are they trapped together? Does beauty visit of their own free will?
  • What role do the villagers and Gaston play? Why are they against the relationship between beauty and beast, and what action do they take to try and prevent it?

Your aspec character talks to their best friend's lover, or their best friend's sibling.

  • Which character has known the best friend longer?
  • What do they want to know about each other's relationships and feelings toward the best friend? Are they protective, jealous, confused, curious?
  • Do the characters want to pursue a relationship with each other? 
  • Is the best friend pushing them to have a positive relationship, indifferent, anxious, oblivious that they're planning a surprise?

Your aspec character has the attention of a billionaire.

  • Was it your character's looks, personality, skills, or something else that drew the attention of the billionaire?
  • What fun setting can you use because of the billionaire's wealth?
  • How does your character feel about the billionaire's attention? What kind of relationship or behavior does the billionaire want from your character?
  • What does your aspec character like about the billionaire?

Your aspec character is involved in blackmail.

  • Is your character being blackmailed, doing the blackmailing, investigating blackmailing, or supporting someone who's being blackmailed?
  • What is the blackmail about? Is it true? What would happen if the secret were exposed?
  • What does the blackmailer want the victim to do?
  • Who does your character trust to help them (no matter their role)?

Your aspec character is set up on a blind date.

  • What kind of relationship is your character looking for?
  • Who did your character trust to set up the blind date?
  • What does your character know about the date?
  • What is the first thing your character wants the date to know?

Your aspec character has a relationship with their bodyguard. 

  • Why does your character need a bodyguard? Are they talented, famous, in danger, or are they connected to someone who is?
  • Are there any rules or family expectations they would be breaking with the kind of relationship / behaviors they want from each other?
  • Are there ethical concerns around being in a relationship with someone paid to protect you, or being in a relationship with someone who relies on you for safety?
  • What private moments of the aspec character is the bodyguard privvy to, and how does this affect their relationship?

Call for Submissions January 2021: Stories

It's time for the  Carnival of Aros ! 🎊 The Theme: Stories Life is full of stories: the ones we tell ourselves, the ones we tell others, and the ones we are told. Stories shape perception, expectation, and the fabric of reality. Okay, I'm getting grandiose - the point is I love stories. I love stories so much I would rather talk about how they work than write them or read them 😂 . (I'm working on that.) What is a story you want to tell? What is a story you no longer believe? Taking Space from Toxic Ace Spaces

Carnival of Aces: February 2021 When I saw the prompt “comparing ace spaces,” I winced. There’s an issue I’ve been wanting to discuss (and this is the perfect prompt for it), but I'm worried saying anything will invite drama. I’m not a fan of drama. So, I will refrain from giving specifics about incidents and spaces, and I ask you, dear reader, to not comment your guesses. The issue is – I feel some ace spaces are toxic. And I don't mean toxic for everyone. Some spaces can be unhealthy, unwelcoming, or uncomfortable for certain people or certain identities to be in.  I’m not here to call out specific spaces. I shared with friends why I was anxious to write this blog post. The recurring response was that this was an important topic that needs to be written about.
