Aspec Writing Prompts: Romance Trope Edition (A)

Here are the "A"s from 145 Romance Tropes, but meant for aspec characters.

Your aspec character has been abducted.

  • What tone are you going for? Is this a misunderstanding? Is the character afraid? 
  • Who has abducted them and why? Was it aliens?
  • Does the character have skills to overpower the abductor or sneak away?
  • Is this an intricate plot where the character got themselves abducted on purpose?
  • What kind of relationship will your character form and with who? (It doesn't have to be the abductor)
  • Do the abductor and other abductees have knowledge of or identify as aspec? Could your character use aspec knowledge to speak in code and make a plan with a fellow abductee? Could your character distract the abductor by explaining aspec concepts?
  • Who is worried about the aspec character, or who would be asked to pay a ransom?

Your aspec character is accidentally pregnant.

  • How do they feel about the pregnancy?
  • Does your character want to be a parent?
  • Who might your character want to raise the child with them, or instead of them?
  • What conversations would your character have (and with who) about deciding what to do about the pregnancy or what their future living situation and relationships will look like?

Your aspec character is afraid to commit to a relationship.

  • If your character is aromantic, how will you make it clear aromanticism is not the same as a fear of commitment?
  • What type of relationship is your character afraid to commit to?
  • Is your character commited to any other relationships?
  • Did something in the past cause a fear of commitment to this type of relationship or in general?
  • What is your character afraid will happen if they commit to the relationship?
  • Will your story end with the character overcoming their fear or listening to their feelings?

Your aspec character reconnects with a childhood friend now that they are all grown up.

  • What kind of relationship did they have when they were children?
  • Does the childhood friend know about or identify as aspec?
  • What type of relationship might they want to form together?
  • Will they form a long-term relationship or not?
  • What did your character like about the childhood friend in the past?
  • What does your character like about the childhood friend now?
  • How has each character changed now that they are adults?

Your aspec character has amnesia. 

  • Do they remember nothing about themselves, or nothing from the past ten years? 
  • Is the amnesia permanent or temporary? 
  • Who is waiting by their bedside at the hospital when they wake up? 
  • How are they reintroduced to the aspec concepts they'd previously identified with? 
  • How do the people who care about them describe their relationships, and how does the aspec character feel about these relationships? 
  • Does anyone try to discourage the aspec character from reattaching to their aspec identity (doctors, therapists, parents)? 
  • Is the character skeptical of the aspec identity? 
  • Who does the aspec character go home with? 
  • What overwhelms the character? 
  • What does the character want out of life, out of the near future?

Your aspec character has a relationship with an antihero.

  • Does your character know they are an antihero?
  • What traits make them an antihero?
  • What kind of relationship do they have?
  • Are they both antiheroes?
  • What would happen if secrets were revealed? Would the relationship change?
Your aspec character wants an arranged marriage.

  • What does your character hope to get out of the arranged marriage?
  • Who is your character trusting to arrange the marriage? (a family member, a match maker, an app)?
  • How does your character feel about the process? 
  • What is your character looking for in a spouse?
  • What questions would your character ask a potential match?
Your aspec character has a relationship with a famous athlete.

  • What sport does the famous athlete play?
  • What kind of relationship do they share?
  • Does their athleticism and physique matter to the aspec character?
  • Is the relationship public or private?
  • Is fame or sport obligations a strain on the relationship?
  • What do the characters like about or value in each other?
  • Does your character enjoy the sport the athlete plays?

Call for Submissions January 2021: Stories

It's time for the  Carnival of Aros ! 🎊 The Theme: Stories Life is full of stories: the ones we tell ourselves, the ones we tell others, and the ones we are told. Taking Space from Toxic Ace Spaces

Carnival of Aces: February 2021 When I saw the prompt “comparing ace spaces,” I winced. There’s an issue I’ve been wanting to discuss (and this is the perfect prompt for it), but I'm worried saying anything will invite drama. I’m not a fan of drama. So, I will refrain from giving specifics about incidents and spaces, and I ask you, dear reader, to not comment your guesses. The issue is – I feel some ace spaces are toxic. And I don't mean toxic for everyone. Some spaces can be unhealthy, unwelcoming, or uncomfortable for certain people or certain identities to be in.  I’m not here to call out specific spaces.
