December Carnival of Aces: Allies

Timely Questions

  • Will you participate in or support Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (ASAW) in February? How? What can you do with this time to prepare? Who can you collaborate with? Who can you follow or promote?
  • Do you have a goal for 2021 related to being an ally? A group project? A resource? An area to learn more about?
  • What are future opportunities you have to be an ally?
  • What is an ally mistake you have made in the past? Why was it a problem? What did you do to make amends? What can you do going forward?

Ally Questions

  • What advice would you give to others on being an ally?
  • What does being an ally mean?
  • Do you have an example of someone being a good ally to you?
  • What ally practices do you hold to?
  • Have there been times when it was difficult to be an ally, or you were not sure how to be an ally? Where could you find support or advice?

Being Ace and an Ally

  • Does being ace affect how you are an ally?
  • What would you ask from allies outside the ace community?
  • How can the ace community be a better ally to you?
  • Does being ace affect which groups you prioritize being an ally to?

Being an Ally to Specific Groups

  • How can we be allies to the alloaro community?
  • How can we be allies to the LGBT+ community?
  • How can we be allies to ace intersections?
  • How can we be allies to aces who don't meet the "representation ideal?"
  • How can we be allies to aces with differing concepts of asexuality?
  • How can we be allies to marginalized groups we don't share an umbrella term with? (see Inclusion Reminder Words for a list of marginalized groups)

Homework-Style Questions

  • Help CharCharChar by giving them feedback on Inclusion Reminder Words. (Or use the word list to think of allyship opportunities)
  • Help CharCharChar by suggesting links about ace intersections for Aspec Databases, Lists, and Resources. (Or use the links for the next question...)
  • What is an ace intersection you don't know much about? Where could you learn more? Could you interview someone and post it to your blog?
  • What accessibility practices do you already do, or could you start doing? (audio versions of blog posts, alternate text under images)
  • What microaggressions do you know for a group you are not a part of? (Hint: try Googling a marginalized group + "microaggresion") What did you or will you do if you hear this microaggression? How will the context affect what you do?
